There's one thing I hear in consultations almost every day: "I just want fuller lips."
I'm Amy Hawkins, FNP-C, the injector behind 29 Aesthetics in Bluffdale, Utah. If that sounds like you, keep reading. Here's why lip filler alone isn't always the answer, and how I create natural results you'll love.
When I hear "I just want fuller lips," it's usually for one of two reasons.
So you focus on one area, like your lips, because it feels safe.
It makes sense. Lips are a focal point! But here's the truth: treating one area in isolation often makes things look less natural, not more.
When the whole face is in harmony, sometimes with subtle tweaks to areas like the chin or jawline, your lips actually look better and more natural. The changes are so subtle your friends can't quite place what's different. They just know you look good.
Balance is what makes lips look effortless. A perfectly shaped lip looks even better when it's in proportion to the rest of your features. That's the idea behind [facial balancing](link to facial balancing post): subtle improvements that work together so no one feature stands out.
Where and how filler is placed makes all the difference. The goal isn't to use more or less filler. It's to enhance your features with precision so your results look natural from every angle, including your side profile.
Your ideal result isn't a copy-and-paste trend. It's tailored to your unique facial structure so it feels like you, just refreshed.
If you want fuller lips but you're worried about looking overfilled, this is exactly how I avoid it.

This patient came in wanting lip filler. But when I looked at her side profile and the projection of her chin, it was clear that adding volume to her lips alone would throw off the proportions of her face. Her lips would have looked overfilled, and her chin would have looked recessed.
The solution? A little chin filler, along with her lip filler. You can hardly tell she had anything done, and that's the key to natural-looking results.
Choose an injector who looks at your whole face, not just your lips. Proportion, placement, and starting with a conservative amount all help results look natural.
Your lips and chin are closely connected in your side profile. If the chin is recessed, fuller lips can look overfilled. Adding a small amount of chin projection keeps everything in balance, so your lips look better, not bigger.
Lip filler typically lasts about 6 to 12 months, depending on the product used and your metabolism.
Absolutely. Many people start with a subtle amount and build gradually. That's often the best way to get results you love without a dramatic change.
No. During your consultation, I'll create a plan that fits your goals, budget, and comfort level, and you can build on it over time.
If you want fuller lips without the overfilled look, start with a consultation. I'll look at your whole face and create a plan for natural, balanced results.
I see clients from Bluffdale, Riverton, Herriman, Draper, South Jordan, Saratoga Springs, Lehi, and across the south Salt Lake Valley.
